About Graham
I have been involved with swimming clubs for as long as I can remember. My swimming journey began at Liverpool Penguins where I learnt to swim and progressed to become a competitive swimmer. I represented Penguins in competition until I was 18. I began teaching with Penguins when I was 14, and started coaching at the age of 17, sometimes swimming in the session I was also coaching. (I couldn't do that now) I became Competition Secretary at Penguins when I was 21. I took a break from swimming in my 20's and got back into swimming when my eldest daughter started swimming with Bridgefield.
I have had two spells with Bridgefield and was Competition Secretary during my first spell at the club. In between I was with Garston, and was Head Teacher for a period there. I returned to Bridgefield in 2013, initially as Competition Secretary before being appointed Head Coach.
My aim as a coach is to foster a positive environment for the swimmers, and build a strong connection both with individual swimmers and also with the groups of swimmers across the clubs Intermediate and Advanced sessions. I want swimmers to achieve their goals in swimming and maximise the potential they have.
My coaching style is to coach sessions that provide a blend of technique focus and conditioning work. I adapt sessions to meet the needs of both individuals and the group of swimmers I am working with. I regularly support our swimmers at galas by assisting them with warm ups, race planning and providing post race debriefs.
I will continue to strive to drive the competitive development of our gala teams and individual swimmers. Finally for swimmers and parents alike if you ever want a chat or have a question for me just ask, I will make myself available.
