What do we do?

Bridgefield is a competitive swimming club with a developmental learn to swim model, with a view to support children in development to become competitive swimmers.

How do we assess our swimmers?

Swimmers interested in joining our club are assessed based on their age and swimming ability and it is this assessment that determines if a child will be offered a place with our club.

We will offer places following a Bridgefield Swimming Coaches assessment in the following range, using the Swim England national guidelines:

  • 4-year-olds as beginners – Duckling Stage 1 and above if they can take instruction.

  • 5-year-olds if assessed as learn to swim beginner at Duckling Stage 1 or above.

  • 6 years olds if assessed as working to no less than learn to swim Stage 2 – 3.

  • 7-year-olds if assessed as working to no less than learn to swim Stage 4 – 5.

  • 8-year-olds if assessed as working to learn to swim Stage 6.

  • 9-years-olds and over assessed by Bridgefield Coaches as completed Swim England Stage 6 and that they are competent in all four swimming strokes and are length swimmers to a recognised training club standard.

  • Swimmers of 10 years of age or older will be expected to be significantly better than the clubs entry standard for length swimming, any entry will be entirely at the coaches discretion

How often should my child attend?

As a competitive club we strongly recommend participation twice a week, to achieve your childs full potential. If you intend to join our club and only have the intention to attend one session a week, this should be discussed with the coach at the time of assessment.
