
Swimming Terminology
Gala roles

Coach – supporting swimmers with warm ups, race planning and providing post race debriefs.

Team Manger – supervising swimmers and ensuring they are sent to marshalling in good time for their events

Chaperones – provide 1-1 support to swimmers if required due to specific circumstances
License Meet levels

Level 4: Internal meets like Club Championships.

Level 3: Developmental short course meets with upper time limits. Estimated entry times (Coaches times) are permitted.

Level 2: Short course meets with minimum qualifying times. .

Level 1: Long course meets aimed at national qualifiers.
Short Course (SC) – Length of swimming pool is 25m
Long Course (LC) – Length of swimming pool is 50m
DQ - Disqualified from an event for a breach of swimming rules
DNC - Did not compete in an event
HDW - Heat declared winners. Medals awarded based on times achieved in the heats. No finals take place
PB – Personal best time for an event
Coaches’ time – a time provided by a Bridgefield Coach to a swimmer for an event that the swimmer has not competed in before
IM - Individual Medley
Marshalling - area swimmers gather prior to an event in order to be allocated a heat and lane number
Over the top starts - swimmers remain in pool for the start of the next heat and exit the pool immediately after the next race starts
